In 2009, the first fossils of Yutyrannus were discovered on a rock slab with the skeletons of two individuals: a large one and a small one. In 2010, another one was found – this time a baby.

All these fossils were very well preserved, and all had feathers: on the bigger adult’s tail, the smaller one’s legs and hips, and the juvenile’s neck and forelimbs.
